Antique yellow gold mourning hair brooch from United Kingdom c 1841. This historic piece features braided blonde hair surrounded by 20 victorian gothic round-cut onyx. Behind the brooch, "Mal Buston Obt Nov 1841” is engraved. Mourning jewelry was at the height of its fashion when Queen Victoria's husband Prince Albert, passed away. After his death, mourning jewelry was a way to show eternal love and respect for lost ones.
