A little history: Garnet gemstones go all the way back to the early Iron Age. Significant deposits of red pyrope garnet were discovered in Bohemia (Central Europe) around the turn of the 16th century. A thriving garnet jewelry and cutting industry based on the very popular red garnets was started in Czechoslovakia in 1500. Until the nineteenth century it was the world’s largest source of gem garnets.
